La traduction est en cours. Désolé. | At the start of the game it looked like it was going to be a good old fashioned wild west shootout as both offenses seemed to be able to move the ball at will, but the Thetford offense stalled after the Islanders defence made the necessary adjustments while the Filons could not stop the Islanders balanced run-pass offense.
The home team got the ball at the start of the game at their own 39-yd line and they had no trouble moving the ball to their opponents’ end zone with nine plays and barely over three minutes to take an early 7-0 lead thanks to a 3-yd TD catch by I#81 (I#16 convert kick). The visitors, however, responded immediately with a 12-play, 86-yd drive that finished with a 17-yd TD catch on a fourth down play by T#15 to tie the game at 7-7 (T#8 convert kick). On the ensuing Abbott possession, the Islanders appeared poised to strike again as they moved from their own 36-yd line to the Thetford 16-yd line on only four plays, but they could only get six yards closer on the next three plays, a major penalty assessed against them being the main reason, and they attempted a field goal. The Islanders usually reliable kicker, however, pushed the ball wide and a Filons player was able to run the ball out of the end zone all the way to the 48-yd line to deny the Islanders even the single point. The mistake proved costly as the visitors were then able to score a quick TD on a 42-yd catch by T#21 to take a 13-7 lead (2-pt convert attempt failed). That, however, was as good as it was going to get for the Filons because Abbott defense was able to make the necessary adjustment to stifle their pass offense and without any credible running threat the Thetford team was limited to less than 80 yards of net offense for the rest of the game. The Islanders, on the other hand, scored TDs on their next two drives and together with a safety conceded by the Filons enjoyed a 23-13 lead at the half time break. In the second half, the Islanders completely dominated the play, scoring touchdowns on three of their five possessions while the Filons could not score any more points and in fact had to concede another safety to make the final score 46-13. The Islanders will now face the Sherbrooke Volontaires in the semi final of the Bol d’Or at 7:30 pm on Saturday, Nov. 13 at the Memorial Field. |
