After a close first half, the Islanders took control of the game in the second half and dominated a Noir-et-Or team that is not the same kind of team that we were used to see in the years past.

With the playing conditions dominated by the constant rain it was expected that both teams would rely more on the running game for their offense, but the Islanders were still able to generate a credible threat with their passes and this gave them the winning advantage. In fact, the Islanders beat Valleyfield with the type of offense that we had come to expect from the Noir-et-Or, which is to have a mobile quarterback and to balance the offense between the ground and the air.

The game started with both teams punting on their first possession, but the Islanders were still able to take a modest 1-0 lead when the Noir-et-Or returner could not get out of the end zone. Islanders defense then forced their opponents to go three-and-out and gave the ball back to the offense at their own 18-yd line. It took them only six plays, however, to score the first TD of the game on an 18-yd run by I#7 and increase their lead to 8-0 (I#16 convert kick).

At the start of the second quarter, the visitors responded with their best offensive drive of the game, going 80 yards in 10 plays to score a TD on a 20-yd catch by V#13 to make the score 8-7 (V#20 convert kick). On the ensuing Islanders drive they appeared poised to respond, getting a first down at the Valleyfield 33-yd line but a 3rd down pass was intercepted by V#9 and they came away empty handed. The two teams then exchanged punts, with one of the Valleyfield kicks dribbling through the end zone for a single, which made the half time score 8-8.

The Islanders took the lead back on the opening drive of the second half with a 14-yd FG by I#16 that made the score 11-8. The offense did not get much chance to rest because on the ensuing Valleyfield possession I#22 recovered a fumble at the Noir-et-Or 51-yd line. Six plays later, I#11 increased the home team’s lead to 18-8 with a TD on a 22-yd catch (I#16 convert kick).

After forcing the Noir-et-Or to a three-and-out, the Islanders scored another TD, this time on a 1-yd run by I#2 to make the score 24-8 (convert kick blocked). The weather then showed its impact on the game as both teams turned the ball over with fumbles before the Islanders offense got back on the field after getting the ball thanks to an interception by I#6 at the Valleyfield 32-yd line. Five plays later, the Islanders scored another TD, this time on a 17-yd catch by I#23 to make the final score 31-8 (I#16 convert kick).

The Islanders will close out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 23 with a visit to CEGEP Montmorency. The game starts at 1:00 pm.
