In what has become a worrying trend in the last few years, and this season more than ever, this was another game between two teams with short benches – Stallions having 25 players while the Rebelles only had 22. However, unlike the St-Laurent Spartans against whom the Stallions played a week earlier who had a credible offense as well as defense, the St-Hubert team does not have any offensive threat. It was their defense that kept them in the game by forcing three turnovers.
The first turnover happened on the first offensive series of the game. Stallions started from their own 49-yd line and with two plays got close to the St-Hubert red zone. However, on the next play they fumbled the ball and R#27 recovered it. However, Stallions defense forced the Rebelles to go three-and-out and punt the ball away but a 28-yd return by S#4 allowed the home team to start their second drive from the St-Hubert 27-yd line. On the ensuing play, S#24 weaved his way through the St-Hubert defense to score the first TD of the game for a 7-0 lead (S#37 convert kick). After forcing the Rebelles to punt on their next drive, Stallions offense again had a short field to work with thanks to a 49-yd punt return by S#49. This time it took them seven plays before S#24 scored his second TD of the game on an 8-yd run to increase Stallions lead to 14-0 (S#37 convert kick). While the St-Hubert offense was stuck in neutral for the rest of the first half, gaining only 1 yard in total production, Stallions offense also sputtered, primarily due to penalties, and the first half finished with the Stallions leading 16-0. They made up for it at the start of the second half with two scoring drives, the first with eight plays for 60 yards while the second one gained 36 yards in eight plays, to increase their lead to 28-0. With only 1:22 left on the game clock, S#24 scored his third TD of the game to give the Stallions a 34-0 lead but on the ensuing kickoff, R#14 picked up the ball on his own 20-yd line near the right hash mark, sprinted across the field to the left sideline and ran unchallenged all the way to the end zone to score the first points for St-Hubert not only in the game but in the entire season so far and make the final score 34-6 (2-pt convert attempt failed). For Stallions, S#24 was the start of the game on offense with 174 yards on 17 carries and three touchdowns. On defense, S#33, S#37 and S#88 combined to make five sacks while S#26 recovered a fumble. S#49 led with the most tackles. . |
