Stallions finally picked on somebody their own size as their opponents had only 21 players ready to start the game while Stallions had 25. The big difference was that the number of Spartans players kept dwindling down as the game progressed, with only 18 being able to play at the start of the second half and even fewer near the end. However, only a failed 2-pt convert attempt at the end of the game prevented St-Laurent from winning it.

The Spartans tried to surprise the Stallions with a short kick to start the game but the ball drifted out of bounds at the Stallions 45-yd line, which gave them a great starting position. Five plays later, they had a first down at the Spartans 14-yd line. They then handed the ball off on three successive plays to St#37, the last one being a 2-yd run around the Spartans flank to get into the end zone and score the first points of the season for the Stallions that put them in front 6-0 (2-pt convert attempt failed).

However, the Spartans, responded immediately. With only three plays and two major penalties assessed against St-Lazare they had a first down just one yard from the end zone. Two procedure penalties then pushed them back 10 yards but on the fourth play of the drive Spartans QB threw a pass into the end zone to Sp#87, who has an uncanny resemblance to a former Stallions great player Justin McLean by the way he runs, kicks and catches the ball, that tied the game at 6-6. The Spartans also tried a 2-pt convert but they were unsuccessful.

After that exciting start, though, the majority of play took place in the middle of the field as both teams traded turnovers and the small crowd of spectators had to wait until there were less than two minutes left to see some more scoring. Stallions offense got the ball at the Spartans 19-yd line thanks to a QB sack by St#70 on a 4th down play. On their first play, St#4 carried the ball to the 9-yd line. They then handed the ball off to St#37 who scored his 2nd TD of the game to increase his team’s lead to 12-6 (convert kick failed).

Once again, however, the Spartans appeared poised to respond as they went on offense with only 56 seconds left on the clock. With four passing plays and another major penalty against the Stallions they got a first down just two yards from the end zone. The Spartans QB then threw a quick pass to Sp#87 but the receiver could not hold on to the ball. Then, they tried two running plays and with no time left on the clock they handed the ball off to Sp#44 but St#43 and St#37 combined to make a TD-saving tackle just a yard from the goal line to preserve the 12-6 lead.

With some of their key players not able to play in the second half, including Sp#87, the Spartans offensive capabilities were severely reduced but they still managed to put together a 7-play, 57-yd offensive drive at the start of the second half, finishing with an 18-yd TD catch by Sp#10 to even the score at 12-12.

At the end of the 3rd quarter Stallions had a golden opportunity to retake the lead when they took advantage of another St-Laurent turnover and had a first down at the 1-yd line but they fumbled the ball and came away empty handed. The next time the Stallions offense went on the field at the start of the 4th quarter, however, they did not make the same mistake. Starting from mid field, they moved the ball to the Spartans 33-yd line. Stallions QB then scrambled into the end zone for an apparent TD but that was called back because of a holding penalty. Three plays later, though, St#30 caught a 25-yd pass to score a touchdown that counted and gave the Stallions a 19-12 lead (St#37 convert kick).

The Spartans made one last valiant effort to win the game when they went on offense at the Stallions 42-yd line with only 1:39 left on the clock. With four pass plays and one run they had a first down at the 15-yd line. On the next play, their QB scrambled into the end zone to narrow the gap to 19-18. Instead of tying the game with a convert kick they tried to go for the win with a 2-pt convert but a pass attempt to an open receiver was off target by just a few inches and Stallions were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

St#37 stood out on offense for the Stallions with 16 carries for 90 yards and two TDs. On defense, St#33, St#49 and St#57 stood out with one QB sack each while St#12 and St#32 each had a fumble recovery. St#3 and St#49 led the team with the most tackles.
