After gaining a point on the road against the Sun Youth Hornets a week earlier, the bantam team with only 21 players faced the daunting task of playing against a well-prepared Cornwall team that had 32 players on the roster and which did not have any obvious weaknesses. They could run, pass, kick, punt and defend. They only area where their defense might be a little bit vulnerable is on deep passing plays.
Stallions went on offense first and with two quick plays got a first down at the Cornwall 54-yd line. Stallions QB then threw a long pass to S#34 who caught it at the Wildcats 25-yd line and raced to the end zone for a touchdown. The excitement was short lived, however, because the apparent score was called back for a penalty and three plays later Stallions, backed up at their own 29-yd line, ended up punting the ball away. The Wildcats offense then went on the field at the Stallions 39-yd line and on their first play from scrimmage scored the first TD of the game on a catch-and-run play by C#8 to take an early 7-0 lead (C#8 convert kick). While Stallions punted on their next three possessions, the Wildcats instead scored touchdowns each time they had the ball to increase their lead to 28-0 at the half time break. In the 3rd quarter, Stallions appeared poised to break to shutout when they completed another deep pass, this time a 50-yd effort to S#35, which together with a major penalty against Cornwall gave them a first down at the 1-yd line. Unfortunately, on the next play C#2 intercepted a pass destined for a Stallions player in the end zone to extinguish the scoring threat. The visitors then moved the ball 86 yards in eight plays to score the final touchdown of the game that made the final score 35-0. S#33 made a big impact on defense with two QB sacks while S#35 and S#82 led the team with the most tackles. |
