La traduction est en cours. Désolé. The Islanders coaches knew that this was going to be a tough game not only because of the very difficult weather conditions, with cold winds gusting up to 60 km/hr, but mostly because of the loss of two key players due to injuries suffered the week before – their starting quarterback and their top receiver. They showed the depth of their roster, however, as they came from being down by two TDs at the half time break to beat the Edouard-Montpetit Lynx 29-27 and earn a spot in the Bol d'Or final against the Valleyfield Noir et Or in a rematch of last year's championship game.

The way the game started it looked like it was going to be a wild west shootout as the visiting Lynx scored a TD on their opening possession, throwing six complete passes despite the strong head wind, finishing with an 8-yd catch for a major by E#8 and a quick 7-0 lead (E#83 convert kick).
John Abbott responded right away, though, with a quick 8-play drive that finished with an 18-yd run by J#18 to tie the score at 7-7 (J#88 convert kick).

The Islanders then seemed to gain some momentum after their defense forced the visitors to punt on the ensuing possession and the offense followed that up with another TD, this time on a 3-yd run by J#3 to take a 13-7 lead, but that all changed quickly as the teams switched sides in the 2nd quarter and the Lynx now had the wind in their back. First, Edouard-Montpetit forced the Islanders to concede a safety and then scored a TD on a 2-yd carry by their QB to go back in front 16-13. After being forced to give up another safety, the Islanders were kicking off from their own 35-yd line and tried to use the head wind to their advantage by kicking the ball high into the air and expecting to recover it. Instead, E#19 snatched it out of mid air at center field and raced into the end zone for a touchdown that increased the Lynx lead to 25-13 at the half time break.

The Islanders went on offense first at the start of the 2nd half but only managed to continue where they left off in the first half – conceding another safety that increased their opponents' lead to 27-13, but those would be the last points that the Lynx would score as the Islanders defense held them in check for the rest of the game while the offense started to exploit weaknesses in the Edouard-Montpetit defenses.

On their second drive of the 2nd half, starting from their own 10-yd line, the Islanders used just two passes and 13 runs, handing the ball off to J#3 10 times and finally scoring a TD on a 2-yd run by J#3 to narrow the gap to 27-20 (J#88 convert kick). Then, after forcing the Lynx to turn the ball over on downs near mid field and punting when they had the ball, it was the Islanders turn to force a safety as the Lynx were facing a 4th down and 36 at their own 15-yd line and they were not going to risk a punt info the wind. That made the score 27-22 with 5:58 left on the game clock.

Abbott offense then began moving the ball on the ground starting from their own 34-yd line and it looked like even luck was on their side that day as they fumbled the ball at their own 50-yd line after picking up a first down but J#18 managed to recover it. Three plays later, they were faced with a 4th down and 3 yards to go at the Lynx 52-yd line. They handed the ball off as everyone expected, the running back easily picking up a first down at the Lynx 40-yd line but the ball was fumbled again and this time E#1 recovered it with only 2:52 left to play.

It seemed like all hope was lost for the Islanders but they got another chance after the defense forced their opponents to punt and the offense got the ball one more time near center field with an eternity of time left on the game clock, or more specifically 2:07. They handed the ball off to J#3 on their first play but then surprised the Lynx with a 26-yd pass to J#8. Three more carries by J#3 followed that, the last one an 8-yd scamper into the end zone that put the home team back in the lead 29-27 and their fans in a frenzy.

The Lynx offense then went on the field starting from their own 17-yd line and 1:24 left on the clock. They used only passing plays and managed to gain a FD at the Islanders 49-yd line but a holding call and a sack pushed them back to their own 44-yd line where they finished with three straight incomplete passes as time ran out.

The Islanders will now play for the div. 2 Bold d'Or championship against the Noir et Or from Cégep de Valleyfield for the second year in a row. The game will be at the Claude-Robillard Center on Friday, Nov. 16, starting at 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased on-line (highly recommended) at the Bol d'Or website.
