La traduction est en cours. Désolé. On Saturday, September 29 the Lasalle Warriors bantam team will play against the Chateauguay Raiders and it should be a really good game. What does that have to do with this game? Well, it just so happens that both of these teams beat the Stallions by the same 53-0 score, they both can run the ball as well as pass, they have speed and they have size. That's what it takes to be a good football team. Stallions, on the other hand, have one passing play.

Stallions pulled off a big surprise at the start of this game with a short kickoff, which seemed to catch the Raiders off guard and S#85 recovered the ball at the Chateauguay 47-yd line. Stallions then went on offense and on their second play S#5 threw a 7-yd pass to S#77. However, the referees called a procedure penalty against the Stallions, then they changed their mind and put the ball back on the Raiders 40-yd line, then they had a long discussions with the coaches, then they huddled together and discussed the play some more and finally they went back to their original decisions and assessed the penalty. More than 10 minutes later play resumed but it seemed to take the wind out of the Stallions' sails and three plays later they turned the ball over on downs.

The Raiders offense then went on the field and on their first play, R#20 scored the first TD of the game on a 56-yd catch-and-run play to give the home team an early 7-0 lead (R#21 convert kick). Stallions got the ball seven more times in the first half but they punted three times and turned it over 4 times while the Raiders scored TDs on five of their six possessions.

In the 4th quarter it looked like the Stallions might score some points when S#72 recovered a fumble at the Raiders 40-yd line and S#11 then caught a 34-yd pass to give the Stallions a first-and-goal just six yards outside the end zone but the Raiders defense pushed them back seven yards on the next three plays and Stallions ended up turning the ball over when the QB was sacked on the 4th down play and fumbled the ball.

On offense, S#11 stood out with three catches for 99 yards while S#85, S#72 and S#54 each helped the defensive cause with a fumble recovery.

La traduction est en cours. Désolé. Just like their bantam counterparts, the Stallions midget team has only one play – hand the ball off to S#22 (kind of like the 2010 St-Laurent Spartans) – but it's a pretty good play and combined with their strong d-line, which can put a lot of pressure on the opposing quarterback, it was enough to beat the visiting Chateauguay Raiders 21-14 in a rematch of last year's Jack Simpson Cup final.

Stallions appeared poised to score the first points of the game when they used 10 plays to move 37 yards for a first down at the Raiders' 30-yd line on their first possession, but two plays later the ball sailed over the QB's head on a bad snap and R#9 recovered it. They soon got the ball right back, however, when S#90 recovered a Raider fumble near the center of the field but they went three-and-out and they punted the ball away. The Raiders then put together a 5-play, 66-yd drive that finished with a 25-yd TD run by R#21 to give the visitors a 6-0 lead (convert kick failed).

The two teams then traded possessions without being able to move the ball very far and the first half of the game ended with the 6-0 score.

At the start of the 2nd half, the Raiders threatened to score some points after moving 64 yards in six plays but S#10 put an end to that with an interception. Stallions punted on the ensuing drive but they pinned the Raiders just five yards from their end zone thanks to a major penalty against the Raiders. On Chateauguay's third play after that, S#1 intercepted a pass and returned it to the 8-yd line. This time, Stallions took advantage of the opportunity and on their third play, S#22 got into the end zone from three yards out to put the home team in front 7-6 early in the 4th quarter (S#41 convert kick).

After forcing the Raiders to punt, Stallions offense got to work just 20 yards from the goal line and again it took them three plays to score a TD, this time on a 10-yd carry by S#22 to increase their lead to 14-6. The Raiders responded right away, however, moving 38 yards in five plays for a first down at the Stallions 15-yd line on the ensuing possession but they turned the ball over on downs at the 12-yd line. When Stallions offense went on the field, they played it safe and handed the ball off to S#22 on the first down for a 6-yd gain. Then, on the 2nd down, they did the same thing but this time Stallions' speedy running back squirted through the Raiders defense and headed for the end zone. Chateauguay defenders put on a valiant effort to try to chase him down but in was in vain and the resulting TD gave the home team a 21-6 lead with 1:38 left to play in the game. The 92-yd run was the second longest running play in the history of the midget team (Gab Cyr's 96-yd record run on Oct. 20, 2006 against Laval-Nord is still intact).

Raiders responded with quick 76-yd drive to score a touchdown and a 2-pt convert to narrow the gap to 21-14 and then tried an onside kick but S#21 was able to field the ball to seal the victory for the Stallions.

On offense, S#22 was the obvious star with three TDs and 176 yards on 22 carries while on defense S#1 ans S#10 stood out with one INT each, S#90 with a fumble recovery and S#58 with a sack. S#11, S#21 and S#90 lead the way with the most tackles.

A new season of amateur football is starting this weekend with games at the atom, mosquito, pee-wee, bantam and midget levels.

A lot of changes took place since the end of the 2017 and it will be interesting to see how they will affect all the people involved.

Perhaps the best way to describe the upcoming season is to use the words of singer Joni Mitchell:

They took all the trees
And put them in a tree museum
And they charged all the people
A dollar and a half to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
'Till it's gone
They paved paradise
And they put up a parking lot

1), 1 septembre (div. 2)
  • la ligue universitaire - 24 aout
  • les ligues scolaires - 31 aout
Here is how the game schedules in the different leagues around Montreal will work:

  • youth leagues (atom, mosquito, pee-wee) this weekend
  • bantam and midget leagues - this weekend
  • junior league - 18 August
  • CEGEP leagues - 24 August (div. 1), 1 September (div. 2)
  • university football - 24 August
  • high school football - 31 August

La traduction est en cours. Désolé. It was a tough way to start a new season for the bantam Stallions facing a Lasalle Warriors team that only had 23 players compared to 21 for the Stallions but outplayed them in every facet of the game.

The Lasalle team went on offense first and only needed two plays to take an early 6-0 lead when their quarterback scrambled 67 yards to score the first TD of the game.

When Stallions offense went on the field it became clear how strong the Lasalle defense was when the Warriors d-line pushed right through the Stallions o-line and sacked the quarterback. On the 2nd down play, the Lasalle defenders once again pushed the Stallions back, this time forcing a fumble that was recovered by L#37 at the Stallions 34-yd line.

The Warriors appeared to score a touchdown on the first play of the ensuing possession but it was called back because of a penalty, which only prolonged the inevitable because six plays later, L#4 scored his 2nd TD of the game to make the score 14-0 (L#20 2-pt convert run).

Stallions got the ball five more times in the 1st half but the most that they could gain was 10 yards on one of the possessions and they ended up punting twice and turning the ball over on three other occasions. The Warriors, on the other hand, scored four TDs on their following five possessions to give them a 40-0 half time lead.

In the 2nd half, with the game clock running, Stallions were on offense four times, putting twice and turning the ball over twice, while the Warriors added two more TDs on their three possessions to make the final score 53-0.

For the Stallions, S#54 was the only bright spot on defense with a fumble recovery.
