(terrain/field: Westwood Jr. H.S., St-Lazare, QC)

2016_midget_09-10_game_stats.gif
La traduction est en cours. Désolé. Stallions scored touchdowns on their first three possessions of the game to build up a 21-0 lead and then cruised from there for an easy 36-0 victory over the visiting St-Hubert Rebelles.

On their first drive, Stallions started from their own 30-yd line and in four plays moved 51 yards to the Rebelles 29-yd line. On the next play, S#88 caught a pass from S#12 at the 5-yd line and then walked into the end zone to give the Stallions a quick 7-0 lead and all the points they would need to win the game (S#88 also kicked the convert).

On the ensuing possession by St-Hubert the visitors appeared poised to respond when they advanced the ball 29 yards and got a first down on the Stallions side of the field but a bad snap and two sacks put them in a 4th down and 40 yards to go situation and they had to punt. Stallions then used a good starting position and only four plays to score another TD, this time on a 3-yd run by S#88 to increase their lead to 14-0.

After St-Hubert turned the ball over near their own end zone because of a bad snap on a punt attempt, Stallions capitalized on the opportunity with a 3-yd TD catch by S#7 to make the score 21-0. After a couple of punts, Stallions got the ball again with only 0:51 left on the clock in the first half and they only needed two plays to score another TD, this time on a 44-yd catch-and-run play by S#1 for a 28-0 lead at the half time break.

Stallions were less efficient in the second half as they only scored eight points, six of them coming from the third TD of the game by S#88, but they didn't need to be as the play was mostly on the Rebelles side of the field.

S#88 stood out on offense with three TDs and 21 points scored while on defense the players who stood out were S#33 with a fumble recovery, S#35 with an interception and S#55 and S#99 who combined on four sacks.

On the St-Hubert Rebelles team, R#5 made a big contribution with his long, spiralling punts that kept the Stallions offense from scoring more points. Any junior or CEGEP team that needs an effective punter on their team should be scouting him.

La traduction est en cours. Désolé. The Stallions bantam team executed an almost perfect game plan, scoring touchdowns on seven of their nine offensive drives, for an easy 54-0 win over the previously undefeated Joliette Pirates.

Stallions turned the ball over on downs on their first possession at the start of the game but they got the ball right back when the Pirates did exactly the same thing. It then took the Stallions just two plays to get on the board on a 53-yd TD pass from S#2 to S#83 for an early 7-0 lead (S#13 convert kick). The ensuing Joliette drive was cut short by an interception by S#33, which proved costly to the home team because Stallions then put together a 6-play, 67-yd scoring drive that finished with a 34-yd TD catch by S#13 that increased Stallions' lead to 14-0.

While the Joliette offense was kept in check by the St-Lazare defense, Stallions' offense scored three more TDs to make the score 34-0 at the half time break.

With the clock running in the second half, Stallions had fewer opportunities to put more points on the scoreboard but they still scored three TDs, one of them by S#48 who recovered the ball on a kickoff from S#13 and ran 50 yards into the end zone.

S#83 stood out on offense with 109 yards on six carries. He also contributed on defense with an interception while S#48 made the most tackles. S#33, S#71 and S#99 combined to make two sacks.

(19 h) Stallions Midget 23 @ Sherbrooke Bulldogs 17
(terrain/field: Université de Sherbrooke, Sherbrooke, QC)

2016_midget_09-04_game_stats.gif
La traduction est en cours. Désolé. According to the laws of football, a good passing game always beats a good running game but the Sherbrooke Bulldogs nearly broke the law as they came very close to beating the visiting St-Lazare Stallions with their powerful and effective ground attack. They also used some of the Stallions' favorite tricks like short kickoffs to surprise their opponents. In the end, turnovers and penalties proved costly to them as they ended up on the short end of a 23-17 decision.

Bulldogs went on offense first after B#33 recovered the opening kickoff but the Stallions defense held them back and they had to punt. Stallions then started their first drive from their own 19, but after advancing 50 yards in nine plays they also punted. The Bulldogs then showed the strength of their run offense as they executed 12 plays, 10 of which were runs, to advance 80 yards and get a first down just eight yards outside the Stallions' end zone. Unfortunately for them, on the next three plays they only got two yards closer and they settled for a 15-yd field goal and a 3-0 lead.

However, it then only took the Stallions offense three plays and 1:22 of playing time to respond with a touchdown on a 62-yd catch-and-run play by S#88 that gave them a 7-3 lead (S#88 also kicked the convert). The Bulldogs went 3-and-out on their next possession while the Stallions put together a 5-play, 61-yd drive that finished with a 15-yd TD by S#88 that increased their lead to 13-3 at the half time break (convert kick blocked).

Early in the 3rd quarter, the Bulldogs turned the ball over when B#82 fumbled it on a punt return and S#7 recovered it. Stallions offense then executed five pass plays in a row, finishing with a 15-yd catch by S#1 in the end zone, to make the score 20-3.

It looked like the Stallions had the game completely in control but the Bulldogs were not throwing in the towel yet. First, they moved 89 yards in 14 plays, all but two of them on the ground, to score a touchdown that reduced Stallions' margin to 20-10. On the first play of the ensuing drive, a pass by S#12 was intercepted by B#38, putting the home team's offense back on the field. The Bulldogs then executed seven consecutive run plays, with the last one being a 1-yd plunge into the end zone by B#91, to make the score 20-17 with 4:07 left to play in the game.
