La traduction est en cours. Désolé. The junior team did not win the game against the Chateauguay Raiders but they certainly deserve credit for a moral victory for the way the came back from being 26 points behind at the half and put themselves in a legitimate position to win, only to run out of time and, to a small degree, luck. This should give them the confidence they need to face the Ottawa Jr. Riders next week.

Two different Stallions junior teams reported for duty at the Westwood Jr. field. One of them was the bad, first half team that could not complete a pass, gained only 67 yards rushing and whose defense appeared unable to stop Chateauguay's running play. Luckily, they were able to capitalize on some major penalties by the Raiders defense and scored a TD on a 1-yd run b y Chris McCarthy with 2:13 left to play in the first half.

The other one was the good second half team that took control of the game, did not allow the Raiders offense to score any points while limiting them to only 100 yards and whose offense was able to move the ball and score some points.

Things looked bleak when the Raiders scored two TDs in the last two minutes of the first half to take a 32-6 lead but Stallions started chipping away in the second half. McCarthy scored his second TD of the game on another 1-yd run. Then, in the 4-th quarter, he scored again to make it 34-20 and when Alex Lamarche caught a 22-yd TD pass with 2:48 left to play that brought the Stallions within one touchdown it looked like it was only a matter of time before Stallions would tie the game. Unfortunately, Raiders were able to get a few first downs and run down the clock. They also got an incredibly lucky bounce with only about 30 seconds left to play. After a handoff, their running back was tackled behind the line of scrimmage at mid field, the ball was fumbled but it bounced right to the Chateauguay QB who scrambled and threw a 28-yd pass for another 1-st down. After that, they were able to run out the clock. On offense, Chris McCarthy once again stood out with 118 rushing yards on 19 carries.

On defense, Alex Lewis and Corey Pascal each had an interception while Charles-Olivier Conway had a QB sack. Jordan Jasiukajc, Sam Hansen and Andrew Palmer combined for 4 blocked kicks. Kevin Lockhead-Morin, Nick Lux, Palmer and Hansen were the leading tacklers.

La traduction est en cours. Désolé. The Stallions may not like me for saying this but it has to be said because as Peter de Lorenzo says on his auto industry website, it's the bare-knuckled, unvarnished, high-octane truth - the Stallions midget team does not have the killer instinct.

They do not know how to finish their opponent. They had a chance to seal the victory last night in St-Laurent but instead they gave the ball away to their opponents who did not waste the opportunity and scored the winning TD with only 2 seconds left to play.

The St-Laurent Spartans used the football equivalent of Mohammed Ali's "rope-a-dope" strategy to stay in the game long enough to have a chance to win. Just like Ali, who may have been behind on points in many fights, they waited until the right moment to throw a surprise right hook to the jaw and knock the Stallions out.

How ironic that for the first 59 minutes and 58 seconds the Spartans were only able to complete one pass for a grand total of 8 yards but on the last play of the game they used play action that had their star running back (#23) throwing a ball 26 yards into the end zone to a wide-open receiver.

After scoring the go-ahead TD on a 21-yd run by Alex Cronn with 8:11 left to play, Stallions got the ball back again at mid-field with 6:50 left on the clock but they punted after three plays. Then, they got the ball back again with 4:01 to play after an interception by Julian Mangan at the Spartans' 43-yd line but once again they gave it away, this time on an interception. It looked like they did not want to score anymore and were content to just sit and protect their lead.

Spartans, on the other hand, went on offense with 2:53 left starting from their own 35-yd line and they used eight consecutive rushing plays to get to the Stallions' 26-yd line with less than 20 seconds left to play. Spectators were surprised that they were not in a hurry to make a play and that the clock might run out but they quickly understood that the Spartans were simply going to lay everything on the line on one last play and ensure that there would be no time left for the Stallions to make a comeback. With less than 10 seconds left to play the quarterback handed the ball off to #23 who started to run towards the outside, then suddenly planted his feet and threw a strike to his team mate waiting in the end zone. Euphoria on the Spartans side, shock and disbelief on the Stallions side. That, right there, was the right hook to the jaw that the Spartans were waiting all game long to deliver and they executed it perfectly. The lesson for the Stallions midget team, and any other team that wants to learn from their experience, is that when you have your opponent on the ropes and reeling you have to finish him off right there and then.

Bryce Vieira was back from injury and contributed with 77 yards on 15 carries while Alex Cronn had 55 yards on 13 carries. Maxime Trudeau contributed on offense as the QB but also on defense as a linebacker, making six tackles and one sack of the St-Laurent QB. Other players who stood out on defense were Julian Mangan, Christopher Blair and Codey Daly who each made an interception as well as Maxime Latour and Jean-Danny Chouinard who each had a sack. Alexandre Cloutier and Brandon Malone contributed with solid tackling and a fumble recovery for Cloutier.
