niveau moustique: Lakeshore, St-Hubert, Île-Perrot Western Patriots et West Pats

Whether it was due to better conditioning or due to better discipline, the QBFL Elites dominated their opponents more and more as the game progressed and scored three unanswered touchdowns in the 4-th quarter to beat the Rive Sud de Quebec team 40-28 to win the 2010 Wilson Challenge MU17 championship.

This game had the same look and feel as the semi-final game between the QBFL Elites and EMS. At the beginning of the contest, the QBFL players made several mistakes, including throwing an interception on the first play of the game, took penalties and committed turnovers on which their opponents quickly capitalized for a 14-0 lead.

But, as the game progressed, they took fewer penalties, stopped turning the ball over, kept wearing the RSQ defense down by running the ball on almost every play and seemed to have more energy than their opponents.

Former Stallions bantam player Serge Pilon was selected as the game MVP for the QBFL team while Mathieu Forgues received the same award for the RSQ team. Alex Pilon also figured prominently in the game by scoring a TD on a 21-yd pass from William Lemire early in the 4-th quarter.

More details about the game can be found below.

In a bit of an ironic twist, an outstanding former Stallions bantam player Alex Pilon scored the winning touchdown for the QBFL Elites with only 31 seconds left in the game on a 16-yd pass from a former Île-Bizard Vikings player William Lemire to beat the team representing the league in which he will play during the 2010 season, the Équipe Metro Scolaire. He was even wearing a helmet from the Cité-des-Jeunes Citadins high school team when he did it. His brother Serge, in a way that was very reminiscent of their play during the 2009 season, also scored a TD but on a 7-yd run.

This game was much more interesting and exciting than the MU15 game between the North Shore Elites and Montreal Metro teams yesterday. Until the start of the 4-th quarter it looked like the EMS team was bound to win the game and assure themselves a place in the final on Sunday but the QBFL team scored three TDs in the last 10 minutes of play to get the win.

The Pilon brothers were the only two players representing the Stallions even though five had an opportunity to make the team.

The QBFL Elites will now face the winner of the game between the Rive Sud du Québec and Montreal Metro teams.

Résumé des statistiques du match entre les équipes des Elites QBFL et de l'Équipe Metro Scolaire
Summary of statistics for the game between the QBFL Elites and Équipe Metro Scolaire teams
La traduction est en cours. Désolé.

The North Shore Elites team was no match for a bigger, stronger and faster team from the Montreal Metro League and suffered a 46-21 defeat. The NSFL team will now play for the 3-rd place honors on Saturday.

There are five Stallions players from the bantam team who are on the North Shore Elites team:

  • QB Troy Rothdram
  • DB Jérémy Comeau
  • LB Loic Quenneville
  • OL Vincent Poirier
  • OL Rémy Langford

Even though the Elites dominated one important category in the statistics, which was the time of possession, they were not able to gain much ground because of their complete reliance on the running game. They attempted to throw a pass nine times and only one attempt resulted in a completion.

On the other hand, the Montreal Metro team used the superior speed of the running backs to gain long yardage on sweeps that they used over and over again.

More details about the game can be found below.

A few pictures will be posted later today.

Un autre match interessant à  Cornwall.

La traduction du compte rendu est en cours. Désolé.

At the end of the first half of the game it looked certain that the Cornwall Wildcats were going to pick up the first win of their inaugural season in the OVFL (the two points they already had came as a result of a default by the Oshawa Hawkeyes).

They were completely dominating their opponents, keeping the ball for more than 20 minutes and accumulating more than 200 yards on offense. With only 1:38 left to play in the first half they had just scored a field goal, their first of the season, to take a 10-0 lead.
However, that's when the Kingston Grenadiers offense came to life and with just one play, a TD on a 75-yd catch-and-run play by Aaron Dowd, brought them right back into the game and made the score 10-7 at the half-time break.

Kingston took the lead in the 3-rd quarter by scoring on their first two possessions. Dowd scored his second TD on another long catch-and-run play, this time a 62-yarder, while Simon Rider-Burbidge scored on a 31-yd run after a fake punt attempt to give the Grenadiers a 21-10 lead.

Cornwall narrowed the gap to 21-17 at the beginning of the 4-th quarter when Jesse McPhail scored on a 14-yd run to conclude an 11-play, 72-yd drive.
The two teams then exchanged touchdowns and with 4:27 left to play in the game the score was 29-23 in favor of Kingston.
Cornwall then made one last attempt to salvage a win moving the ball 26 yards into Kingston territory but an interception by Andrew Ling sealed the victory for the Grenadiers.

If the Cornwall Wildcats could only be a little bit more imaginative and less predictable on offense, and if they could improve their kicking game a little bit, they will be a formidable opponent to any team in the league .
